Date of birth: February 2, 1953
Place of birth: Mexia, Texas
Hometown: Raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma now reside in Sunrise Beach Village, Texas.
Family: Wife, Kim; Daughters, Mary Catherine and Angie; Dog, Hot Rod

Years in the sport: 45

Career highlight: Just being able to do it

Occupation: Retired Petroleum Operations Engineer and drag racer

Hobbies: Real estate renovation, lake water sports, and doing whatever my Granddaughter wants to.

Personal car: Chevrolet Equinox

I got my start in racing…in high school going to Tulsa International Raceway and watching Modified Production and then me and a buddy built a ’56 Chevrolet to race in D/MP.

What I love most about racing: The technical challenges of getting a racecar put together that is competitive in Competition Eliminator

Most embarrassing moment at the races: Bending the tie rods on the ’56 Chevy Modified Production car during a dry hop which had the front wheels toed-in so bad the car wouldn’t roll and having to wait for a wrecker to tow me off the starting line and all the spectators were mad that I was holding up eliminations.

Toughest thing about drag racing: The money. When I break something it takes me a looong time to be able to come back.

Best race vehicle I ever had: ’94 Bickel Camaro. It had been built for Don Stratton. Really nice piece.

Toughest loss: Every one of them.

Favorite opponent: David Rampy. The best of the best.

Last person I’d want to race in a final: Anyone running Comp who is in the final is going to be tough.

The race I’ll never forget: Dallas 2002. Got out of the grove and did a 180 and smacked the opposite side guard rail. The car didn’t roll but got close. I never made fun of guys who have wrecked a car going in a straight line after that.

Person I most admire in racing: Lee Shepherd. He achieved so much before he lost his life. What could he have achieved if he were still alive today?

Lifelong hero: Mickey Mantle

If I wasn’t a drag racer: I’d have a lot more money.

I knew I’d made it: When I retired and was able to concentrate on drag racing.

I’m really good at: Being an asshole. I can get along with anybody but if someone wants to be an asshole I will give them a lesson they won’t forget. I’ve always told people if you look up the definition of asshole in the dictionary there will be a picture of me.

Favorite movies: Hoosiers, Remember the Titans, Hard Times, Cool Hand Luke, Christmas Vacation.

Favorite actors: Robert De Niro, Jack Nickolson, Robert Duvall, Densel Washington

Favorite TV shows: Today, The Voice

Favorite foods: Cheeseburger and French fries. Mexican food-hot hot hot. Powered sugar coated mini donuts.

Favorite sports teams: New York Yankees, New England Patriots.

My computer home page: Yahoo.

My music: Soft rock, Pop

Pet peeves: People who drive slow in the passing lane. People who drive with their heads up their butt. Unnecessary traffic lights.

Biggest regret: Being an asshole when I shouldn’t have.

Modern convenience I can’t live without: TV

Nobody knows…I’m afraid of heights.

I wish I could stop…thinking about naked women.

I hope I never have to stop…working on race cars.

I’ve never been able to…read music.

Smartest thing I’ve done: Adopted my two daughters.

Best time of my life: Right now. Retirement is better than I ever expected.

Worst time of my life: When I got divorced.

Best advice I’ve received: Don’t lie, don‘t steal, don’t cheat and don’t never ever give up.

Advice to aspiring racers: Follow your dreams and the above.

Future racing goal: Be competitive in Comp.
